Greensburg, PA - Tim Krieger, Republican Candidate for the 57th Legislative District seat, made the following statement:
I commend John Boyle for calling upon Democratic House Majority Leader Bill DeWeese to step down from his leadership post. As a result of the scandals surrounding Representative DeWeese and the House Democratic Caucus resulting from the alleged illegal activities of prominent Democratic legislators and staff, it is clear that he has lost the trust of the people of Pennsylvania.
Mr. Boyle's call for the General Assembly to reform itself, however, is akin to asking the fox to guard the henhouse. Politics in Harrisburg has become an insider's game by and for those with money and connections. That is the root cause of the corruption. There will be no reform in Harrisburg until we have the courage to address this fundamental issue.
For real reform, we must change the way the General Assembly operates. The best way to do so is to make the General Assembly a part-time citizens' legislature. Neighboring states such as Virginia find a part-time legislature more than adequate to address the needs of its citizens. There is no reason Pennsylvania can not do so as well.
